Joe Balz
With Over 31 years as a Federal Police Officer with an extensive VIP Security background, Joe was a national instructor training police from international, national, provincial and municipal jurisdictions. A few highlights of his career include G7/8 in Toronto, Halifax, and Calgary; he was selected to her Majesty the Queen’s bodyguard team for her visit to Canada. Two international details to Ukraine with federal court judges; and conducting VIP security training for the Louisiana state police.
In addition to policing, Joe has over 9 years of Corporate Security experience. His Corporate Security experience includes working in an International Corporate environment where he was responsible for Scotiabank Personnel and Physical Security in over 50 countries. Further to this Joe was the Director of Security for CTV which included implementing security for CTV personnel at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Joe leads the Close Protection Workshops for Sentinel Security Personnel.
Steve Summerville
Stay Safe President and Training Coordinator
Steve Summerville is President of Stay Safe and retired as a Staff Sergeant with the Toronto Police Service in 2001. Security Coordinator for the AIDS 2012 Washington, 2010 Vienna and 2008 conference in Mexico City (as well as AIDS 2006 in Toronto) and the SARS Concert in Downsview in 2003.
Steve has extensive experience in all phases of Crisis Management Training; including Crisis Resolution, Tactical Communications, Defensive Tactics, Use of Force and Restraints. He has been recognized as an Expert in the field, including every level of the judicial system from Criminal to Coroner’s Court. Steve continues to provide Expert opinions to Legal Firms, the Judicial Systems, Coroner’s Court, etc
Rockland (Rocky) Prosser

Rocky Prosser is the Director of Protection Services at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Providence Care Health, and provides services to Brockville General Hospital. He previously worked for Michael Garron Hospital, Markham Stouffville Hospital, and North York Branson hospital. In addition, Rocky has been employed as a firefighter, served with the Toronto Auxiliary Police as Constable, and served in the Canadian Armed Forces. He is the current Chair for the Ottawa Chapter of the International Association Healthcare Safety & Security. He holds a B.A. from Union College, Lincoln Nebraska, received a certificate in Healthcare Law from Osgoode Hall York University , and is a certified crime prevention specialist with the International Association of Crime Prevention. Rocky holds membership with the Toronto Police Military Veteran Association and the International Police Association. He is married with 4 children, 5 grandchildren and enjoys riding his Harley Davidson.
Jim Bremner
Jim Bremner is a risk management expert of renown who has over 30-years experience in law enforcement including uniform patrol and emergency response tactical unit as Special Weapons Team leader. Jim is qualified as a sniper, weapons technician, tactical trainer and Use of Force and firearms instructor. He has provided instruction and seminars for various police, military, EMS and security agencies throughout North America and overseas.
His many qualifications and/or certifications include weapons technician and instructor (on a variety of weapons), EOD technician and Andros and Pedsco operator, CBRN Instructor (live agent certified), chemical munitions and distraction device instructor, baton instructor, aircraft assault instructor, rappel master, close personal protection instructor, special reaction team instructor, and nuclear emergency response team instructor. He has more than 30 years of extensive martial arts and unarmed combat experience in Tae Kwon Do, Jiu Jitsu, Washu Kung Fu and Israeli Krav Maga, and is certified by Israeli Special Forces instructors.
