A Long Awaited Summer – Next Steps in a Pandemic
After a long winter, a spring void of the things that make us excited for sunshine, and this never ending pandemic and the political and social turmoil that we continue to go through – summer is upon us.
And not just summer – while sunshine, warm days, green grass and blue skies can leave us smiling for days. There is more to it than that.
The latest lockdown here in Ontario has been lifted and finally we can embrace the other aspects of these long sunny days that we have come to love and appreciate.
In the suburban areas, these hot sunny days means an exodus from our homes where we have been hiding out during the dark winter months. We’re once again face to face with our neighbours and those that live around us.
Tidying up and maintaining our lawns, our homes. Cleaning up from winter and moving our lives outdoors.
Embracing the sun on our faces and rekindling our neighbourhood relationships.
The next obvious step in this summer momentum, is meeting our friends and family – supporting our local economy. Wining and Dining at our local bars, restaurants and eateries.
With the next phase in this covid cycle moving ahead in the circle, it renews hope and allows us to set our sights on the future.
With our economy and possibly even our personal bank accounts taking a significant hit this past almost year and a half, some of us may not be as fiscally able to indulge in dining out or supporting local as much as we’d like.
For those of us that are able, this is an opportunity to not only treat ourselves, but give back to our communities, local economies, and our favourite businesses and establishments that are hurting right now.
There are businesses and companies that have had to keep their doors closed, find alternative means, and pivot, just as a means to survive this seemingly endless pandemic.
Whichever side of the covid belief fence we sit on, whether we support the government decisions or not – At the end of the day, none of this matters.
While voicing our opinions, our concerns – standing up for our beliefs and fighting for what we think or know is right.
This matters.
However unfortunately as we are all very well aware, change doesn’t always happen overnight.
While we can be mindful of the advice and direction we’re given and follow it quietly, knowing that this too shall pass.
Or we can follow the direction and still vocally oppose it. Shouting from the rooftops.
Or even vehemently deny all of it and act on our own accord. Trying to make it through the hurdles that life is throwing at us and the difficulties that can see insurmountable.
Whichever group you find yourself in, the end goal is the same.
We all want to see this end.
We want an end to the lockdowns.
We want an end to the restrictions.
Most importantly, we want an end to the sickness – the pandemic that started it all.
And in the meantime, if you have the fiscal means – embrace your local community.
Even if masked and from a distance.
Treat yourself to dinners on patios, drinks with friends and enjoying this summer responsibly.
Put some of the money you may have saved by not traveling.
Not dining out.
Not wandering malls aimlessly.
Put it back into the businesses around you that you want to see not just survive – but thrive.
As a Security Company, we are happy to be back among some familiar faces and friends with the reopening of Toronto.
The event side of our business took a sharp turn and forced us to pivot in ways we never expected.
However a year and a half later – we’re thrilled to be back among friends, and we hope you’ll join us.
