How Many Ways Can you Tie a Shoe?

How many different ways are there to tie your shoe laces?

How many different ways are there to fold a blanket?

How many different ways can you make a pizza? With all the different toppings and all the varieties?

For all of the above, there are many different ways. Many different variations.

There is no right or wrong way.

Each way is incredibly opinion driven, and nurture driven. If you were brought up tying your shoe with the two bunny years, thats how you tie your shoes. You were taught that way and you’ve spent your life with little regard to any other options.

It doesn’t make the other options wrong. Or even lesser. It just isn’t the way that you do things.

And thats ok.

Not everyone likes pineapple on their pizza, but liking pineapple on your pizza doesn’t make you a lesser person. As a fellow pineapple pizza lover – I’m here to vouch for your sanity. Its ok to mix your fruit and vegetables sometimes.

Obviously as opinions and feelings get involved in our daily processes, it certainly can feel like there is a right or a wrong way.

While there may sometimes be a good way and a better way – it doesn’t diminish the fact that there can still be more than one way.

And sometimes, what may work one time, may not work the next.

There very well can be a time and a place for everything and every different way to do things.

Not everything is always so cut and dry.

While in the security industry, things may more often seem black and white – there are still different ways to handle and diffuse situations.

Aggression is not always best handled when being matched with more aggression.

Sometimes you really can win people with kindness.

People react differently just as they fold their towels differently or tie their shoes differently.

And perhaps if someone is under the influence of something, the way they have been handled in the past, won’t necessarily be best practice while they’re under the influence.

Having all the answers to every situation can almost be like having a road map to life.

It doesn’t exist.

Life is set to be constantly evolving and changing. Life is being prepared (or not) for the unexpected.

Being able to keep an open mind and stay open to other suggestions or possibilities.

It doesn’t mean that you have to adapt them as your own for life, but certainly having options and back ups is never a bad thing.

Most of us spend our life writing with either our left or our right hand. If we happen to injure our dominate hand, then what? Writing, eating, getting dressed – everything changes.

We have to take the way that we’ve done things for so long, and adapt to something different. Even just temporarily.

Its never easy and there may often be a struggle – but strong will and determination, and in the case of having to feed yourself with the opposite hand – hunger – will definitely kick in and act as motivating factors and help get the job done.

Until a road map to life is actually written, and things become so clear as black and white, or red and blue – or whatever colours you chose, being open to the possibilities will help make things easier.

Some days everything goes as planned and you never have to veer off course. Other days we all hit road bumps and snags and we have to take the long way until we can find those short cuts to make up time.

At the end of the day, we all get there.

How we get there shouldn’t matter.
