New Year, New Me – Resolutions debunked

Happy New Year and Welcome to 2019.

As we come to the end of our first week of a new year, a lot of people are almost one week deep into their fresh starts. Their new mindsets, ambitious goals, and clean beginnings. A lot of people look at this time as a blank piece of paper. A chance to rewrite or rework the same old story and hope for a better outcome. Lets be honest, I think most of us fall victim into at least thinking that January 1st is a blank page and we can forget all the bad decisions we made the following year, reflect, and come back stronger.

And why not? The calendar has rolled over so what better time then now to reassess, regroup and renew.

However, whats saying that 2018 was so bad? What if those bad decisions lead to other things – things that wouldn’t have otherwise happened had those choices not been made, and things turning out not as bad as we had expected.

Why can’t New Year be Same You? What if there was nothing wrong with last years version of you? This year you can be 2018 version 2.0. This doesn’t mean you aren’t destined for great things – it just means that you’re not walking around of the belief that because the clock struck midnight, people should automatically assume you’re a better version of yourself.

Lets face it – odds are we’re all the same. We don’t change at 12:01 on January 1st. Our mindsets might, our goals might, but odds are, we even leave those behind somewhere around the mid to end of January because we realized that we’re fine just the way we are.

It doesn’t mean we can’t strive for greatness. We just don’t have to set an impossible goal that will just leave us frustrated in the end.

Instead, maybe we should think of ways to keep ourselves as we are. Unique individuals with our own thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and goals. Our own person that can’t be defined by a society wrought with categorizing every single little thing.

As a Security company – we’re proud of who we are. We’re proud of what we believe in, who we count as family, and what we set out every day to achieve.

We don’t want to be different in 2019. We want to be the same Security company you’ve come to know and trust. We’re different – we’re supposed to be. We wouldn’t have it any other way. Its what sets us apart from average. Always pushing us harder and further to become more… Us.

Does that mean we don’t want to better ourselves? Of course not. But we don’t have it as a goal to become better. We expect to become better.

We don’t need a stroke of a clock to make us believe. As we grow older, we grow wiser. We gain experience. We grow. We use all of these things to get better and stronger.

Isn’t this what you would want from any company that you have grown to love?

So for 2019 we as individuals, families, and organizations should set down a new path. We should aspire to be better, stronger, healthier versions of our same selves. We should aspire to have goals, and reach for them – but may they always be attainable. We should be humble, and kind and never forget our beginnings. We need to remember those that help lift us, and in turn take the time to lift others. There is no greater reward then helping others. When we work as a team, the greatest gift is reaching the finish together – knowing that you were a part of a bigger plan. Working together on the path towards greatness.
